KARACHI – New Zealand has suffered a setback ahead of their tri-series final against Pakistan, as star batter Rachin Ravindra has been ruled out due to an injury sustained while fielding.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead confirmed that while Ravindra’s condition has improved, he is still experiencing discomfort, forcing him to miss the final. In his place, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been added to the squad.
Ravindra Recovering, Expected to Be Fit for Champions Trophy
Stead revealed that Ravindra had been experiencing head pain for a few days but is now recovering well. The coach remains optimistic that he will be fully fit ahead of the Champions Trophy, which begins on February 19 in Karachi.
Ferguson Returns After Long Injury Layoff
Meanwhile, Lockie Ferguson, who was injured during the ILT20 league, is set to make a comeback despite not having played an international match in 15 months.
How Ravindra Got Injured
Ravindra sustained the injury while attempting to catch Khushdil Shah off Michael Bracewell’s delivery during Pakistan’s innings in the first match of the series. As a result, he was rested against South Africa and has now been ruled out of the final.
The Champions Trophy 2025 will kick off with a match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi, with the final scheduled for March 9.
