Lahore, March 5, 2025 – In the second semi-final of the Champions Trophy NZ vs SA, New Zealand won the toss against South Africa and opted to bat first. The match is being played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
New Zealand got off to a solid start after winning the toss, but they lost their first wicket in the form of Will Young, who was dismissed for 21 runs. However, Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson took charge with an outstanding batting display, not only stabilizing New Zealand’s innings but also laying the foundation for a big total.
Rachin Ravindra and Williamson played elegant strokes all around the ground. Rachin Ravindra scored a brilliant 108 runs off 101 balls, while Williamson crafted a superb 102 runs off 94 balls.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, after winning the toss, stated that the pitch looked good and that they were familiar with the conditions. He added that due to the wind, dew might not play a major role in the evening. Expressing pride in leading the team, he emphasized that they knew what to expect in these conditions. Santner confirmed that there were no changes in the playing XI and hoped that their familiarity with the conditions would help them put pressure on South Africa.
South African captain Temba Bavuma mentioned that he had no issues with losing the toss, as they would have also chosen to bat first to put up a big score. He said he was feeling much better now, and his inclusion marked the only change in the South African lineup.
It is worth noting that India has already secured a spot in the final after defeating Australia in the first semi-final. The winner of today’s SA vs NZ match will face India in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday. The final will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
