The 25-year-old man who had once saved Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant’s life, Rajat Kumar, has reportedly attempted suicide by consuming poison along with his girlfriend.
According to Indian media reports, Rajat Kumar and his 21-year-old girlfriend, Manu Kashyap, took this extreme step on February 9 in the Bochha Basti village of Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh. The couple allegedly made the decision after their families refused to accept their relationship.
Both were rushed to the hospital after ingesting poison, but Manu Kashyap succumbed during treatment, while Rajat Kumar remains in critical condition. Reports suggest that their families had already arranged marriages elsewhere and rejected their relationship due to caste differences.
Following Manu Kashyap’s death, her mother has accused Rajat Kumar of kidnapping her daughter and forcing her to consume poison.
A Hero’s Past
Rajat Kumar first gained nationwide recognition in December 2022 when he and another man, Nishu Kumar, rescued Rishabh Pant from a horrific car accident. Pant’s Mercedes had crashed and caught fire while he was traveling from Delhi to Uttarakhand. Rajat and his friend pulled the cricketer out of the burning vehicle and rushed him to a hospital, saving his life.
This tragic turn of events has left many shocked, as a man once hailed as a hero now fights for his own life.
