Paris (Web Desk): Speaking at the conclusion of the AI Action Summit in Paris, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt expressed concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) could be used by terrorists or rogue states to harm innocent people.
In an interview with a British news agency, Schmidt stated, “My real fears are not what most people talk about when discussing AI; rather, I am referring to extremist threats.” He warned that malicious actors could adopt this technology and misuse it to develop biological weapons.
Schmidt called for government oversight of private tech companies developing AI models but cautioned that excessive regulations could stifle innovation. He also mentioned that former U.S. President Joe Biden had imposed restrictions on the export of advanced microchips to slow down AI research progress among rival nations—restrictions that could potentially be reversed by Donald Trump.
“Think about those with corrupt intentions,” Schmidt added. “This technology is advancing so rapidly that they could adopt it and cause real harm.”
