07 March 2025 – Almost everyone uses smartphones nowadays, but one common issue is battery drainage. Yes, smartphones need to be charged at least once a day. But imagine a phone that doesn’t require a charger—one that charges itself while you’re on the go!
Such a phone has now been developed, made possible by solar power. At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, a Chinese company unveiled a smartphone equipped with solar panels. The phone features a solar panel on its back, allowing it to charge using sunlight while you’re on the move.
According to the company’s Solar Charging Smartphone Concept, this is currently just a concept model, meaning it’s not available to the general public yet, but it is fully functional.
The company has named this technology Solar Energy Reversing Technology and has used perovskite solar cells for it. These cells are thin and cost less to manufacture compared to silicon-based solar cells.

Additionally, the solar cells are paired with a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) system, which regulates voltage to prevent the phone from overheating under direct sunlight.
Solar Charging Smartphone: A Game-Changer in Mobile Technology
To further enhance the charging process, the company has also developed a solar-powered case that can double the charging speed.
The company claims that the case can be charged using sunlight at any time of the day. At night, if the phone’s battery runs low while you’re outside, the case can be used to recharge it. This case can also be a lifesaver in situations where electricity is unavailable.
